Steven Moffat of Doctor Who revealed in a news event on 21st of March, 2012, that Coleman will take over the role of Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left. Moffat picked her for the role due to the ease with which she worked together with Smith and also because she could speak faster than him.
